Rotterdam, Netherlands – Substitute Nacer Chadli notched a late winner to see Twente apply some additional pressure on first-place Ajax with a 1-0 defeat of last-place Excelsior at Stadion Woudestein on Saturday.
Chadli's 90th-minute strike helped Twente improve to 60 points on the season to keep its title hopes alive. The club now sits just four points back of Ajax ahead of its clash against Groningen on Sunday.
Excelsior, with five straight defeats, remains bottom of the Eredivisie on 18 points with three games remaining.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Mike Havenaar scored late to see Vitesse earn a point in a 1-1 draw with Heerenveen, Utrecht ensured its Eredivisie safety with a 2-0 defeat of RKC Waalwijk, and Heracles claimed a 3-2 win to doom De Graafschap to a relegation playoff.
